At Carmel Valley Lodge, we take pride in our rolling Californian acreage adorned with nature’s beauty. It’s one of many reasons people are drawn to stay in our beautiful lodge. If you love golf as much as you enjoy nature, then you’ll truly appreciate another classic, the Pacific Grove Golf Links—a golden gem in CA. With over 75 years of history, this gorgeous course is a must-try for golf professionals and enthusiasts alike.
A Golden History
Pacific Grove Golf Links was founded on a mere $10 gold coin and a handshake. But at that time, no one would have dreamed that a simple idea like recreational golf by the bay would eventually turn into a crowning jewel of California. The property initially opened on May 9, 1932, with only the front nine holes, but eventually expanded to a back nine by the coast in 1960. The expansion of the back nine was designed by well-known golf course architect, Jack Neville. When he created his design, he kept close in mind the original Scottish and Irish landscapes on which the game was first enjoyed in the 15th century. By letting the curves and rounds of the terrain map out the course, the natural beauty of the coast would be preserved and truly enjoyed for many games and decades to come.
Competitive Courses
This affordable 18-hole layout is nothing short of exhilarating. With a perfect mix of fun and competitive holes and an innovative yet classic design, award-winning Pacific Grove Golf Links attracts a vast variety of players. The front nine is perfectly situated among swaying cypress trees and rolling hills, with an occasional glimpse from the fairway of the gold crested waves along the coast. On the back nine, you’ll find yourself accompanied by a dramatic ocean backdrop, only adding to the excitement of the game. And to add to its charm, in 2006 the City made a responsible pledge to bring back a variety of native and endangered plants among the dunes that would allow the course to continue to thrive for years of playing.
Delicious Food
You may think your day is done after 18-holes full of fun and “fore’s,” but the energizing 19th hole still awaits! The Grill at Point Pinos is known for its award-winning breakfast and lunch service, as well as comfort-filled house-baked goods paired wonderfully with their Verve Coffee Roasters espresso bar. Decked out with a beckoning bar, relaxing lounge, and aesthetically enclosed ocean view patio, this lighthouse-turned-grill is deemed award-winning for a reason. So whether you’re in need of a celebratory happy-hour cocktail to end the day, an invigorating breakfast to kick off the first nine, or a quick grab-and-go between the 9th and 10th holes, The Grill at Point Pinos is a perfect choice.
Expert Instruction
Perhaps you, like so many people, have a fondness for golf but never had the opportunity to pursue it. Brad Cursio of the PGA is the Director of Instruction at Pacific Grove Golf Links. With a 3-point philosophy in learning golf, his motivating lessons may be just what you need to curb your golfing curiosity. Cursio offers a private, 45-minute session for adults and juniors, and a semi-private, 45-minute lesson for two. If you’re feeling really ambitious, you even have the option for an entire 9- or 18-hole playing lesson.
